The last day... All or Nothing..

Well due to the fact that I stayed up almost all night last night I'm feeling confident that I nearly have all my work done :) I met with Pamela as she did the rounds in the room and she didn't tell me to change anything in the line up which I was delighted with. I spent the morning just tweeking up bits like doing the front cover, having already bound the sketchbook thanks to my wonderful mother who lent me a binder from the office I was sorted.  So all I really had to do was go through the contextual and write bits and pieces about why I like a designer or the outfit, or maybe it was the photography.  I was happy with my sketchbook as I left it in the room for it to be graded and almost a bit sad that I had to leave fashion aside now untill ranking, hoping all goes well for me of course.  Now I wait in anticipation for my result and move onto my next discipline.

Here is my final line up in my chosen colours.  Some worked better than others and the markers did tend to be a bit scratchy which was disappointing but its all a learning curve and I'll know better for next time.  After doing the two weeks I know now that I really want to do it.. It was exciting and an exhilarating course, it may have been tough, but to me it was worth it and I learnt alot throughout the two weeks. For ranking I do plan on putting my all into the project and I hope it will be enough to secure a place in fashion so I can continue doing what I love!
Bye for now.

Apologies for the pictures being sideways but my technical abilities are'nt that great :)

Last full day of work... PANIC

Thursday was the last full day of work so there was a bit of a panic as there was so much I wanted to get done and I didnt think I would have the time to get it done. However staying up intill 5 in the morning I did infact get all I wanted done :) Up at 7 the next day was a bit difficult I must admit. So, on thusday alot of work was gettin done, and I mean ALOT, I was in the zone. I had picked up the markers in my colours the day before so I was set to colour my line up, but I had to pick it first.  I spent the day finishing up the drawings and designs, I wanted to get a bit done on each fabric, these pictures..

Are pictures of when i draped the lightweight fabric on the mannequin and then the heavy weight to see the massive difference in shape and form, then I designed from these images and I thought they were very interesting and gave me alot to work with.
Lightweight

 Heavyweight
This image here is when I put the three types of fabric in the one design on the manneqion and then drew them to see if there was much of a difference.  I could see a difference from the light to the heavy but really and truthfully I feel you could make the fabric do almost anything with the help of pins, therefore I think the above pictures of the draping materials worked much better because there was quite significant differences!

When I finished that I went on to picking my final line up, I already had an idea so it was just a matter of changing them slightly maybe to make them work as a whole outfit or just to make it look better.  So i spent the night colouring in the line up and doing my colour stories, also finishing off the contextual notebook, a long night but definetly worth it!  Tomorrow I will put up pictures of the line up. :)

Wednesday the 23rd..

Well wednesday morning we worked on the sewing machines, it was fun to get back on the machines again its been awhile even if it was real basic stuff.. I recently got a new Brother machine off the generous Santa:) but im very happy with it, its easy to use and has all the necessary stitches I will need.  Aside from that it was a regular working day I continued on with my sketchbook and picked my colour stories and also got alot of my contextual notebook done.. I've been collecting stuff for the notebook since the start so I have more than enough to keep my going.  I'll put in some pictures from the contextual aswell as the colour stories I decided to go with.  I chose a dark green almost tiel colour, a really dark greeny blue(which i could not find in any brand of markers so i had to go with a dark grey unfortunetly) and a creamy colour to have a light colour in with the dark ones, for this i also had to comprimise with the choice of markers, the colour ended up being more yellow than I had hoped.

Tuesday..

Today in studio everyone kept working away with their designs.  I was working from the pictures of the material and spent some time in the library doing research for my contextual notebook as i learned today that in your contextual notebook you put in fashion images that appeal to me not in fact images that has relevance to my work, but what harm most of the pictures i put in i do find interesting anyways!
So, tomorrow we are working on the sewing machines and continue to work on our sketchbooks.. theres so many opportunities that your sketchbook brings to you but so little time to do all that you would like!

Just some more pictures to look at...

Just after the first day of the second week in fashion and lots to report.. Today I had to cut out my two shapes out of three kinds of fabric, a lightweight (lining) medium(cotton) and a heavyweight(which i could tell you what it is because i got it in a tent shop but its quiet heavy with a denimy feel on top and a tweed back but it does the job!) So today i had just started with the heavy in one of my shapes and put that over the croquis like we had to do with the paper last week.  I feel that the heavyweight fabric was much like the paper but I did have more control because i could toss and turn it without the fear of it ripping.  I soon moved on to the lightweight which was a massive difference but i quite liked the lining and it was easy to move around the croquis.  I'll put up pictures of both fabrics to show the difference and tomorrow when I've all the fabrics done with both shapes hopefully I will report the differences in them!

Towards the end of the first week I was creating designs from the two shapes that I picked and from the pictures I took of the shapes on the mannequin.  I drew from the picture and then I created designs by enlarging, reducing, turning upside down the shapes on the croquis and doing as many variations as possible.  From these designs other designs would be inspired from the original design.
At the same time research for my contextual notebook began and i was looking for images from magazines, newspapers, articles or on the web of any fashion related pictures that in some way resembled my work.  For instance if the picture was of a garment that looked very similar to my shapes then that would be relevant to me and my contextual research.

The first picture below is of a page from my sketchbook showing a progression of designs from the original image and the other picture is showing a page from the contextual research showing images that i feel resemble the page from the sketchbook because the shapes are very similar in that both are sharp and pointy with severe angles.

FASHION!!!

On my second day of the fashion project I have done and learnt so much.  Yesterday we chose our source (mine is microscopic views of parts inside the body! ) I have been drawing them and picking out the shapes in each one to eventually choose just two shapes to stick with for the rest of the project.  So, today I cut out those shapes on big paper and draped them over the mannequin in several different ways and different places on the body, this was definetely the most fun and creative part so far.  In the afternoon we did colour studies with Liz and learning about colour studies.  This evening I completed the colour studies I started earlier which I will put up an example of on my blog.  Tomorrow we are doing fashion illustration, I no will be exciting:) Work to do... I'll update soon.
